A Study on Health Related Quality of Life of Gay Men and Lesbians in Korea

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of perceived social support, perceived social stigma, and self-esteem on health related quality of life of gay men and lesbians in korea. To achieve this purpose, a survey was conducted, and this sample was based on 237 gay men and lesbians. A sampling method was the snowball sampling using face to face interview. The main results testified by this study are as follows; First, the positive function of perceived social support effected on health related quality of life of gay men and lesbians. Second, perceived social stigma turned out not to be any effect on health related quality of life. Third, self-esteem influenced on health related quality of life. Fourth, homophobia proved to be positive effect on health related quality of life of lesbians. Fifth, stress had a significant negative casual effect on health related quality of life of gay men and lesbians. In conclusion, It¡¯s necessary for future studies to more systematically investigate any other variables for a better understanding of the quality of life of gay men and lesbians.
